Cadenhead's Ardbeg 17 vs Bowmore 19 | Sample Saturday
I had the Sherry Cask version and it smells great. Better than Loch Lomond 10/12 and with a cheaper price. Look forward to try the Double Cask. It's 65 AUD (~35 pounds) at Australia but still a very good price.
Love the idea behind these releases. Love the detail on the blends. I think I may, just may prefer good blends like this. Reminds me of Compass Box. Very cool.
Fabulous video/review Vin! Oh I'd love to try these! See I am keeping an open mind on blends!! 🙂
Not available for me, but I think this is brilliant stuff. I love the whisky/music intersection. I get it with your notes-- heavy and light at the same time. When a dram is complex you get those layers that are contrasting.
It is the best at its price point. sure a single malts are better, but they are TWICE THE PRICE... the JW Red probably has like 30-40 different single malts blended. so if your just getting into it, this is a great starter or weekend sipper or with coke and ice. Do not listen to the so called 'connaisseur'.. or scotch single malt snobs ... JW Red is great... for what it is.
I know quite a few people rave over these but for some reason grain forward blends don't seem to agree with me. I'd have to try a sample before considering buying these.
69 pounds for a nas 80% grain whisky thats a no no for me. sorry.
I bought a bottle of track05 about 2 weeks ago for £69. Haven’t opened it yet but looking forward now even more. Thanks for the review. 👍
Nothing about the specs? Since you’re in touch with the distillery, it would be great to hear about chill filtration, abv, colorant, added sugar.
This is kinda funny. I really(!) like Benromach, except for the organic because I have found it way to peppery😂 Though to be fair I haven't had the organic since they changed the range and design, so it might be a lot different now.
Thing is, why would you try it. There's so much choice out there that you're not gonna buy the new version of something you didn't get on with. Hopefully you can catch a sample or something to compare though!
@@NoNonsenseWhisky Spot on, Vin😄 These days I find myself stocking up on the favorites we found during our reviews that can be bought for 100ish $. I practically never take a chance on a fun looking but (to me) unknown dram anymore😉
Starting a peated whiskey journey could you suggest a mild Starting point
Ordered some drinks by the dram and added this to it.
Nice! Let me know what you think
These contrast ranges are incredible. You get a lot of flavour with all of them, an array of casks and characters at a good abv and fantastic price. Cheers Vin!
Love this Benromach! Love them all! Even the 10 year old is delicious and very well priced!! Cheers! $75.00 Canadian before taxes! I love the Benromach 15! The smoke is awesome and a great contrast to Islay peat/smoke!! I always see non chill filtered but I never see no colour added. Have you seen that listed? Huge Benromach fan!! Awesome video Vin!! Cheers!! 🙂
I tried the contrast peat smoke, I found it to be balanced: subtle peat and clean sherry. Cheers
I need to look that one up!
Hi Vin, following on from another great review rushed out and picked up a bottle for £67. Can you explain, being advertised as a single cask why mine is 900077 vs 76 in the review. Are we being had over a barrel excuse the pun! Or is there something I can learn?
A good question! I can only assume that they did a couple of batches of it. Sadly my contact from the company has moved on so I've no way of easily finding out for you
I'm really glad you reviewed this one because it is not only available online in the USA, but a very affordable bottle. This sounds like a nice one to have in the cabinet to introduce folks to Scotch-- sweet and easy to enjoy. Sometimes we are all in the mood for something like that. Thanks, Vin!
It's always a good day when I can finally cover something you've seen around! Hoping to have a few more coming soon
Nice to see a well presented Benromach that still seems good value. Cheers, Vin!
Yeah Benromach still holding the torch high
I'm three quarters of the way through their contrasts: double matured, bordeaux wine cask finish and its gorgeous. 46% as usual and says aged 12 years in oak casks on the label 5 years of which were in those wine casks. Love everything from Benromach tbh.
I'd love to get into them a little more. Recently I've only tried this and the CS
@@bobsander4589 im a third through my bottle and I have to agree, it is rather good. The first seven years were matured in FF bourbon casks and it doesn’t say natural colour on the label (it should)but I wrote an email to the distillery and I was ensured that like every Benromach bottling it is natural colour. Slàinte
It’s kind of the alcoholics choice for whiskey because it’s suitable, inexpensive and can be drank straight or otherwise-I’m just being honest. And yes I am alcoholic PS: the bottle is kinda manly looking to which doesn’t hurt
Hi Vin, do like Benromach’s contrast malts. Plenty of variation and the organic is pretty decent as well. Slàinte Vin.🥃
I'll definitely need to try more after this
I really liked this one too Vin, there is a nice wee you tube video to accompany the Organic series by the Distillery manager Keith Cruickshank. Thought the 2014 was sold out now, I'll check out MoM. ruclips.net/video/fj62klfxdW4/видео.html
I'll have a watch of that later!
These Glenallachie single casks, which I think I have tried at least 15 of, have all been absolute bangers! It's always a good day when you try these types of whiskies. Like you said, not bottle maybe but very happy to have samples of. Cheers Vin!
I've never tried a bad one either! Though I've tried maybe 3 or 4 😅
Paid 100 euros for this in greece, obv I was fleeced 😂
Oh that's atrocious. Hopefully youll enjoy it a bit more 😅
Should call it Bourbon started! 😂
Bourbon started 🤣🤣 love it
Lucky bugger!
What a treat this must have been for you. Excellent review and I almost felt like I got to experience this special dram. Thanks, Vin.
A proper treat! I've even saved a bit to try again later 😅
I need to get a bottle of craigellichie along with macadam
Great review, sounds like a fantastic whisky.
Enjoyed rhe review buy wayyyy out of my price bracket 👍
What do you think about famous grouse sherry cask? 👍
These days I am turning to Bourbon casks! I have had too many sweet scotch whiskies lately. Complex, peated, rich brine, and deeply complex Speysides like a Craigellachie 17 or 21 are faves!!
I have had this excellent Glen Allachie several times! We still have a fresh bottle on our bar! Expensive but worth it. I am not a sweet scotch fan but I like this one! Terrific thoughts! Cheers!
I feel like the Glenallachie name costs an extra premium these days, even for liquid distilled back when quality was not a concern. That’s not saying it’s bad whisky, I’m never seen The Whisky World produce a bad exclusive, but if this was an Aultmore 17 with the same stats, and taste, it would likely be much cheaper. Curious if they were/are willing to send you the Edradour exclusive, that one is a bit more reasonable!
I can certainly ask if they'd be willing to send me some!
Got a few single cask expressions but all younger than this 17 year old (10-14 yrs) and bagged for sub £100 at the time. Still a tad pricey even for cask strength and 17 years so not a value proposition for me sadly unless TWW want to send me a sample 😅
Pricey but apart from that, exactly what I would like on my shelf. I've never had or tried a GlenAllachie myself, but I'm very keen. I'm sure this would sell out in a very short time were it to be introduced to my country Norway.
It's definitely worth it to try a GlenAllachie if you ever get the chance
For sure, it's on my list! There's five OBs and two IBs available at the moment, I'm just not sure they're good value as it stands.
Not in my price range I am afraid. But thanks for showing us.
Nor mine 🤣 nice to try though!
I'm sorry, but I have to ask: when did Black Forest gâteau (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte) named after the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) in Germany change its name to Dark Forest gâteau... and why? Is this some form of trendy 'woke' overcompensation for terminology that was never racist to begin with? In which case, it makes me furious! So much so that the rest of the review didn't really register...
To be honest, I think that's just me making a mistake rather than it being a thing. I did the tasting notes on the fly just said what came to mind rather than checking the name of it
@@NoNonsenseWhisky Sorry if I overreacted - I've gone through a spate of having to correct Americans that a full English breakfast includes black pudding (a pudding/boudin that is coloured black) NOT 'blood sausage'...
Nice one. But my wallet says no
Same.
Sounds like a very nice winter dram
Absolutely!
I didn’t like first but after my 15th shot let me tell you that this drink is …. Read more
Boy im drunk af
You got me with the read more 🤣🤣
I've been exploring many whiskeys of late from cheap blends to peat-fuls to single malts and grains and was pleasantly surprised to come back to jw red with a more educated palate to find it's not a bad whiskey at all. A lovely full cinnamon mouth with a pepper finish and even a broader palate of caramels on ice. Don't snub it just looking at the price. It's been around a long time for good reason.
Learn to pronounce it.
Love this bro, been building a bit of a catalogue of whisky reviews and building up the courage to post online and it’s been really cool following you and seeing how your channel started.

@@NoNonsenseWhisky I will do just that, thank you!
I have enjoyed any and every Craigellachie so far. This sounded really good, and worth the price of admission. Thanks for sharing!
I dont think I've tried a bad Craigellachie either!
Nice one Vin. To be honest cant go wrong with Craigellachie IB. Bit at pricy side but good specs and i think worth the extra quids. It could be at bit more higher strenght. I had 11yo Cadenheads at CS, aprox. 60% and it was amazing. Higher proof lifts Craigellachie distillate to next level. Cheers 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
Yeah it would have been nice to see a higher abv for sure
this is for this year!!, promise ill keep up to date from now on lol In Glasgow 1770 - Calvados Glasgow 1770 - Manzanilla Glasgow 1770 - Tequila Signatory 100 proof - Staoisha Signatory 100 proof - Ben Nevis Signatory 100 proof - Ardmore Lagg - Corriecravie Longrow - Peated Cu Bocan - 12 year old Ledaig - 10 year old Cotswolds - Single malt Stauning - Summerton Small batch smoke, very wintery whisky lots going on Cu Bocan - Signature, got this on offer great guard whisky around £30 if you like back ground smoke Douglas Laing - single cask rock island finest, only 50cl but cracking whisky would definitely explore more Douglas Laing Master of malt - secret Speyside, this was 66% and too much for m, was only £30 and got used ‘spicing up some lighter whiskys Cutty Sark - Prohibition , great guard whisky ,maybe a little sweet, not buying any more opaque bottles Tomatin - Legacy, got this for about £27 and would buy again at that price Mcleans Nose - great blend , already replaced it. Ardnamurchan - AD, really great once past the neck pour, have an earlier version and will replace when that one has gone. Glasgow1770 - Summerton club bottle, fantastic Loch Lomond - Steam and fire, really enjoyed this, not sure id replace because I have more loch Lomond and the 12 year old sell cheaper than this one, perfect if you want some smoke but not as much as the Inchmoan. Kings Inch - Directors cut, fantastic whisky all their range is great Loch Lomond - 12 year old, another one that was great after the neck pour Lochlea - Our Barley, cracking bottle if you like that young lowland type of vibe will try other versions. Lochlea- sowing, very nice whisky would explore range further Copeland - Merchants quay blend, local distillery, was about £25an d Highland park - 12 yr old got 2 of these as Christmas presents, ok kind of thing, nice opener if having a few drams, wouldn’t buy. Glasgow 1770 - Tequila, cracking summery dram, would have replaced if i didn’t have a whisky lake developing. Glen Moray - Twisted vine, another present, pleasant nice sweetness another summery one but a too tame. Deanston - 12 yr old , really great standard highland whisky would replace Tobermorey - 12 yr old another great highland malt ,don’t think replace, Deanston, glen garrioch would be a preference and I much prefer the ledaig from this distillery. Glasgow 1770 - Oringinal Cask Strength, this is great but a bit boisterous at times Glasgow 1770 - Peated Cask Strength, absolutely top notch will replace when i get space. The 2 Glasgow cask strengths were half finished, I have combined them. The summerton 1770 release that was a mix of peated and unpeated was exceptional. It was like eating apple crumble and custard at a BBQ. The hope is this could be like a cask strength version of that one.
Sounds interesting Vin. I've never tried the OB 13 or 17 year olds but i know people rave about them. This IB version might be worth a punt.
It's definitely worth a shot. Especially if you can find it in the lower 60s
That was the one I bought when you first covered the Canmore range and I'm glad I did! I've not been much of a fan of the OB Craigellachies (well, the 13 and 17 specifically - higher ages and prices are somewhat different), so I worried a bit about this, but needn't have.
That is the big issue with Indie isn't it. You can never be 100 % sure. This one is particularly good though isn't it
Not long finished a bottle of the Double Oak version. Nice enough for a starter dram and a healthy 46.3%abv. I'm intrigued to see how yours got on in the blind tasting .. will give it a watch. 🥃🌾
I think it got on about as well as you can expect given the competition. Reasonable enough
